Minimum Essential Budgets (MEB), expenditure, and details of total weekly income and the weekly shortfall or discretionary income for each houshold: This section details the expenditure for each household type from 2006-2009. The basket of goods was originally priced in 2006 and it has been updated according to the inflation figure for each categoy of goods for 2007, 2008 and 2009. The annual update of expenditure costs is undertaken in June of every year using the Consumer Price Index to chart the annual change in goods and services over a 12 month period. The expenditure of each household is then compared with the household income to ascertain if families in this study are living with a shortfall (when their expenditure costs are greater than their income) or a discretionary income (when their income is greater than their expenditure costs). Among the items costed are food, clothing, personal care, household goods, social inclusion and participation among others.
